Element

Steam

Immersive steam environments bringing temperature, water and atmosphere together.

Steam is the most atmospheric of the elements. It is also the most demanding to build correctly — the room is a sealed system, not a fixture.

A steam environment holds near-total humidity at a moderate temperature. The generator, the enclosure and the drainage plan are one connected assembly.

Surfaces must be fully vapour-sealed, sloped ceilings prevent condensation drip, and the generator is sized to the enclosed volume and the surface materials used.

Rime Forge is currently establishing supplier relationships for residential generators, commercial-grade systems and control and aromatherapy accessories.

Planning

What to consider.

Generator sizing

Sizing depends on cubic volume plus a material factor — stone, glass and tile all absorb and lose heat at different rates.

Vapour sealing

Steam rooms require a continuous waterproof membrane behind the finished surface. Retrofitting a standard shower rarely works without rebuild.

Ceiling and drainage

A sloped ceiling directs condensation to the walls, and the floor must drain properly under sustained moisture.

Controls

Digital controls manage session length, temperature, and optional aroma or lighting integration.
